Luís Soares

Luís M. Guimarães Soares was born in 1978.

In 2000, he has obtained a degree in Applied Biology from the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal).

After that, in 2006, he has obtained a Ph.D. degree, from the same University, after developing work in the areas of heavy metal toxicity and oxidative stress.

He has attended several courses in the areas of life, health and environmental sciences and in the area of intellectual/industrial property.

Between 2001 and 2007, he had some teaching activity in several areas of life and environmental sciences and management systems.

In 2007-2008, while working for PIEP – Innovation in Polymer Engineering (Guimarães, Portugal), he has been a project manager at the so-called Medical Device and Pharmaceutical Group (a project involving several institutions of the Portuguese scientific and technological system and companies from the medical device and the pharmaceutical sectors).

Luís Soares integrates the HCP's executive team since its beginning, initially holding the position of Project Manager, then as Director of Studies and Planning, and currently as Strategy Director (CSO) and as Coordinator of TRIS-HCP | Translational and Clinical Research Infrastructures Specialisation Platform – Health Cluster Portugal.

He is a Member of the European Commission's H2020 SC1 Programme Committee. He represents HCP in the Health Experts Group of Horizon Europe and integrates the Monitoring Technical Group of the Societal Challenge "Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing" of Horizon 2020 – both groups managed by GPPQ - Portuguese FP Promotion Office (ANI - Portuguese National Innovation Agency / FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology).

He is one of the Coordinators of the process of elaboration of the "Research & Innovation Agenda on Health and Clinical and Translational Research", developed by FCT.

He has integrated the Think Tank "Innovation in Health" and task forces on clinical research and clinical trials.

He has participated in evaluation panels of R&D/entrepreneurship projects, juries of business ideas competitions, expert panels of European projects, and advisory boards of innovation projects.

Occasionally, he collaborates on postgraduate courses in the area of Health.

He participated as a speaker or moderator in numerous events, covering areas such as innovation in health and open innovation, clinical and translational research and clinical trials, R&D funding, knowledge valorisation, market trends, and eHealth.
