FCT released the results of the evaluation of R&D Units (2007-08)

The results confirm the continued dynamics of the Portuguese scientific system

The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) released the results of the evaluation of the Portuguese R&D Units.

The results refer to the independent evaluation process that involved 23 panels of international experts, from over 15 countries, that visited all the Units during 2007 and 2008 and also evaluated the reports previously submitted to the FCT by each Unit, in July 2007.

As a result of the evaluation process, and considering the entire Portuguese scientific system, the distribution of the Units by the global quality classification levels Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor is now, respectively, 21%, 38%, 25%, 15% e 2% (compared to 21%, 31%, 27% 13%, 8% in 2003). The results thus confirm the continued dynamics of the Portuguese scientific system, as well as the quality of the research carried out in Portugal in all scientific areas when assessed by international standards (59% of the Units are now rated as Excellent or Very Good, compared to 52% in 2003).
