HCP held the Conference "Specialisation, innovation and entrepreneurship in Health in Portugal"

 

On 2 October 2014, HCP held, in the Auditorium of Fundação D. Pedro IV, in Lisboa, the conference "Specialisation, innovation and entrepreneurship in Health in Portugal".

The morning was dedicated to the information and networking session "Funding and cooperation opportunities in R&D and Innovation in Health – Support instruments for R&D institutions, hospitals, entrepreneurs and companies". The session was opened by Vasco do Canto Moniz, President of Fundação D. Pedro IV, and Joaquim Cunha, Executive Director of HCP.

The first presentation, entitled "Funding opportunities for R&D institutions, hospitals, entrepreneurs and companies in Horizon 2020" was made by Joana Camilo, National Contact Point for the Societal Challenge "Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing" and the Innovative Medicines Initiative, at GPPQ-FCT. This was followed by the intervention of Conceição Moreno, Director of Regional Policy Unit at the Agency for Development and Cohesion, with a presentation dedicated to the theme "Support to R&D and Innovation in Portugal 2020". [view presentation]

After that, João Pereira, Director of Venture Capital at Portugal Ventures presented this organization and its activities, particularly the Call for Entrepreneurship. [view presentation]

The session continued with the panel "Open Innovation: How to collaborate with...", dedicated to the presentation of the collaboration programmes of global Pharma and MedTech companies with the Academy, SMEs and startups. The panel included Ana Rita Lima, Medical & Regulatory Affairs Director at AstraZeneca Portugal [view presentation], Ana Torres, Country Manager & Global Innovative Pharma Head at Pfizer Portugal [view presentation], Carlos Santos, Medical Director at Sanofi Portugal [view presentation], Sofia Umbelino, Head of Market Access & Public Affairs at Bayer Portugal [view presentation] and Luís Lopes Pereira, Country Manager at Medtronic Portugal [view presentation], who was also the moderator.

The panel was followed by a moment of networking during the coffee break.

Then, the session continued with the panel "SciPort Live", conducted by the Director of Studies and Planning of HCP, Luís Soares, which included flash presentations of members of TRIS-HCP | Translational and Clinical Research Infrastructures Specialisation Platform – Health Cluster Portugal, and their respective R&D projects and service centres. The conference continued during the afternoon, with the working session "Smart specialisation in the Portuguese health sector: HCP's subclusters", exclusive for HCP members.

The session was opened by the President of HCP, Luís Portela, and the first intervention was made by David Setboun, Country President of AstraZeneca Portugal, with the presentation "The importance of specialisation and cooperation for the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Portuguese health value chain".

The next interventions were dedicated to the HCP's subclusters initiative, and to the subclusters "Neurosciences", "Cancer" and "Medical Tourism", with presentations by Nuno Arantes Oliveira, Nuno Sousa, José Dinis and Joaquim Cunha.

After a coffee break, the session ended with a debate with HCP members.
