MyCareShoe
Shoe for preventing diabetic foot ulceration.
iabetic foot ulceration is one of the most frequent and serious complications with a significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. Typically, patients suffer from a loss of sensation to nerve stimuli in the lower limbs (neuropathy), followed by the development of diabetic foot ulcers, which in severe cases can lead to amputation. Ulcer formation occurs mainly in areas with high localised plantar pressure. It is, therefore, important to provide a better distribution of plantar pressures to prevent and reduce the development of diabetic foot ulcers.
The best form of prevention involves monitoring the patient's plantar pressure, since critical areas, that is areas with higher pressure, are more prone to the appearance of diabetic foot ulcers. Therefore, PPS2, MyCareShoe, combines the sensing and acting components in a single product.
